Our Pastor, Bishop Alphonso Scott, D. Min.

Bishop Alphonso Scott accepted the call into the ministry in 1962. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, the then Elder Scott accepted the Pastorate of the Lively Stone Church of God in Nortonville, Kentucky. He worked faithfully in this vineyard as the Lord prospered the congregation there. During his tenure in Nortonville, Elder Scott served as District Elder, then as Chairman of the First Apostolic Council of Kentucky and Tennessee. In April 1987, upon the passing of his father, District Elder Scott was installed as the Pastor of the Lively Stone Church of God, Inc. in St. Louis, Missouri. Two years later he was elevated to the office of Bishop in the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World.

Bishop Alphonso Scott has always had a heart for missions, and from 1989-1995 served as Diocesan of the 38th Episcopal District, which encompasses the country of Haiti. That relationship continues today with schools, assemblies, and crusades to Haiti and the Bahamas. He also served as Diocesan of the 11th Episcopal District, which includes the First Apostolic Council of Kentucky and Tennessee from 1995-2000, and two terms as Auxiliary Bishop of the International Pentecostal Young People’s Union. Currently, Bishop Scott is the Diocesan of the 12th Episcopal District, which covers the Midwestern District Council of Missouri and Southern Illinois.

The son of the late Bishop Phillip Lee Scott and Mother Louvenia Scott, Dr. Alphonso Scott was educated in the St. Louis Public School system. He furthered his education while in the Air Force and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana. He continued his academic studies, hungry for the Word of God and earned a Master of Theology degree from the International Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida, then culminated his pursuit with a Doctorate of Ministry degree with a pastoral emphasis in 1983. In addition, Dr. Scott was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Aenon Bible College (1995).

Bishop Scott is married to the lovely Dr. Phyllis A. Scott. They are the parents of two sons, Elder Dwight Scott and Elder Lee Scott and have two daughters-in-law, Taya and Sonja—all dedicated to the work of the ministry. They also have five talented grandchildren.

For twenty-two years, Bishop Alphonso Scott has continued to proclaim that Jesus is the Light of the World. He has championed the fight for holiness in these dark and troubling times. He has continued to encourage the saints of God to hold fast to their faith, for now is not the time to faint, but to look up. We are victorious in Christ.

Bishop Scott has since 1987 continued his work in the mission field. Bishop has always had a heart for missions, and from 1989-1995 he served as Diocesan of the 38th Episcopal District, which encompasses the country of Haiti. That relationship continues today with schools, assemblies, and crusades to Haiti. A similar work also exists in the Bahamas.

Accepting the call of the Lord, Bishop has embraced this world ministry vision. He has and is preaching Jesus to the world via network television, the internet, cable television, crusades, and personal appearances, as well as written media (books), DVDs, and cassettes.

Bishop Alphonso Scott’s message has not faltered. He stands firm that the Bible is the unadulterated Word of God; one Lord, one faith, and one baptism—in Jesus’ Name. He is a man of wisdom and compassion. He is an encourager of men and women. He believes in education; especially tempered with salvation. He shows us how to love the young and the elder, demonstrating respect for all. For twenty years, Lively Stone Church of God has remained victorious under his pastoral care. Thank God for Bishop Alphonso Scott, our victorious shepherd.

Our First Lady, Dr. Phyllis Scott

Phyllis Ann was born to the proud parents of Alex Alexander and Carrie Lee Boyd on July 21, 1939. Her school years, as a young girl and a young lady, demonstrated a life of Excellence both in her school performance and in her life for Jesus. Young Phyllis carried herself in such a way that she was seen as “peculiar” and “persistent in prayer.” In 1948, her father died in a coal mining accident. As a result, at the age of nine she found herself beginning her active role as a big help to her mother in his absence. She actively helped raise her three sisters and two brothers. In 1954 she was baptized in Jesus’ Name in Old Hickory, Tennessee and she received the Holy Ghost in Nortonville, Kentucky. She was known to run to church often to ask the Lord to bless her with strength to be able to assist her mother.

She attended Rosenwald High School in Hopkins County and graduated in the summer of 1958. On August 28, 1958, she married Sergeant Alphonso Scott. Since her husband was in the United States Air Force, she traveled to many countries around the world. First Lady Scott has been quoted as saying: “Through numerous travels with my husband, I have been blessed to meet various people of diverse ethnic groups, religious beliefs and economic conditions. God has been by buckler and strength.”

From 1974 through 1987, she worked along side her husband as the First Lady of the Lively Stone Church of God in Nortonville, Kentucky. During this ministry she began the Missionaries and Christian Women Auxiliary, Women’s Choir, and organized the Sunday School Department. In 1987, she moved with her husband to St. Louis, Missouri to become the First Lady of the Lively Stone Church of God in St. Louis. Her work has not stopped. As the President of the Missionaries and Christian Women Auxiliary, she was the driving force in the effort to raise $250,000. These donations have contributed to the funding of major renovations at the church. Dr. Scott has actively supported the Ministers’ Wives Auxiliary. She has served as President of both the 12th Episcopal District and the Lively Stone Church of God, St. Louis Ministers’ Wives Auxiliaries. To learn more about Dr. Scott, read A Women’s Guide to Wholesome Living From Earth to Glory A Chronicle of the Life of Phyllis Scott. This work was published and documented by An TS Consulting, L.L.C.

Dr. Scott has been married for more than fifty years and she is the mother of two sons, Elder Dwight Scott and Elder Lee Scott. Both sons have married women equally active in the ministry: Taya and Sonja. Dr. Scott is also the proud grandmother of five: Julia Grace, Joelle Alexis, Alphonso, Lee II, and Lawrence.
